The origin of the foundation traces its roots to 2008, a year in which a professional services firm started its operations in Chicago. After opening offices in Kaunas and Vilnius, the team saw an opportunity to strengthen the skillset of university students by offering a highly competitive, free to attend academy that enabled participants to apply their skills to real world challenges for US clients. The program produced over 2,500 graduates over the course of last ten years.
Strengthening an existing pool of graduates was a strong start, but the team soon realized that a more impactful strategy would be to increase the number of young adults entering studies in the Computer Science field. To lower the barrier of entry and to create interest in early childhood, the founders started Sourcery for Kids, a first in Lithuania, non-profit programming academy for kids in Lithuania. The program expanded rapidly to eight locations, hosting as many as 600 kids in the program annually.
The professional services company was acquired in 2021. To continue the mission, the eight business founders established the Devbridge Foundation in 2023 and contributed €8 million as the organization’s initial capital, which has now grown to €10 million.

Following its expansion to Kaunas and Vilnius, the team saw an opportunity to strengthen university students’ technical skills by establishing one of Lithuania’s first cutting-edge, free-to- attend tech academies in 2014. The model was later scaled to the United States and Poland, and also adapted for use in The Gambia. This highly competitive program enabled participants to work on real-world challenges for U.S.-based clients. Over time, the academy expanded its reach to include not only university students but also individuals seeking to reskill and enter the IT sector. In the past decade, the program has produced more than 2,500 graduates in Lithuania.
